ABOUT DGL

Learning and teaching are core values of the DGL lab. With a "learning by doing" approach, the lab sets an example in higher education, inspiring and educating many both in and beyond the classroom.

Our lab focuses on Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Fusarium spp., and their roles in polymicrobial biofilms—an area of growing clinical concern due to the pathogens' complex infection dynamics and formidable resistance traits. K. pneumoniae, a Gram-negative bacterium, is frequently linked to pneumonia, bloodstream, and urinary tract infections, with rising antibiotic resistance posing serious treatment challenges.    P. aeruginosa, another Gram-negative pathogen, is notorious for causing persistent hospital-acquired infections, especially in immunocompromised patients, due to its ability to form resilient biofilms and resist multiple drugs. Meanwhile, Fusarium spp., filamentous fungi, are capable of causing a range of opportunistic infections from superficial keratitis to invasive fusariosis. When these pathogens coexist in polymicrobial biofilms, they exhibit enhanced survival strategies, making infections more difficult to eradicate and amplifying their threat to human health.
